Which 2025 BMW X3 Trim Should You Buy?

Longer and wider, yet lighter and stiffer than its predecessor, the fourth-generation BMW X3 launches for 2025 with standard mild-hybrid assist for both available engines. As it does with many of its models, BMW eschews typical trim-level hierarchy on the X3; instead, it offers different powertrains and numerous option packages with each that allow buyers to spec the vehicle to their liking.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The lineup opens with the X3 30, powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. BMW thoroughly reworked the X3’s gas engines for 2025 to improve their efficiency, but the 48-volt mild-hybrid assist nevertheless boosts total output from the 2024 model’s 248 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque to 255 hp and 295 pounds-feet.

Likewise, the X3 M50’s turbo 3.0-liter inline-six is more efficient than the 2024 model’s engine. Here, the hybrid powertrain generates 393 hp and 428 pounds-feet of torque, increases of 11 hp and 59 pounds-feet over the equivalent 2024 M40i.

An eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive are standard with both powertrains.

Official EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2025 model are not yet available, but these same engine updates increased efficiency in the 2025 4 Series sedan by 2-3 mpg and will likely have similar results in the X3.

The four-cylinder 2024 X3 with AWD returned 21/28/24 mpg city/highway/combined; the equivalent six-cylinder was rated at 21/26/23 mpg.
