General Motors (GM) electric vehicle (EV) owners can now charge their cars at Tesla’s Supercharger stations. This new option opens up Tesla’s extensive charging network to GM EV drivers, who previously had fewer charging station options. GM cars use a different charging standard, called the Combined Charging System (CCS), while Tesla uses the North American Charging Standard (NACS). To solve this, GM drivers will need an adapter, priced at $225. From 2025, GM EVs will come equipped with Tesla-compatible charging ports, making future charging simpler.
This collaboration is part of GM’s effort to make owning an electric car easier and help expand charging infrastructure for all EV users. GM drivers can benefit from faster and more accessible charging options during long trips by using Tesla’s widely regarded as one of the most reliable and extensive Supercharger networks in the U.S.
A Tesla Supercharger can provide up to 200 miles of range in about 15 minutes, with its high charging speeds known for their efficiency. Many GM drivers, particularly in areas where non-Tesla fast chargers are still limited, will find this to be a game-changer.
Additionally, GM has announced that this partnership will enhance the growth of EV adoption, as a more interconnected charging network reduces range anxiety for customers.
This marks another step forward in building a collaborative electric vehicle ecosystem, improving convenience for all EV drivers, regardless of their car brand.
